EVENINGS OUT

With the drive-thru closed, pageants return to U4ia

by Jimmie Pechman

Cleveland-I'm baaaaacckk! Now that the 75%-off after-Christmas sales are over at K-mart, I guess I have to get back to work. Not to say things haven't been happening. Take the other day, it was just my good, good friend Iman and myself—two simple

Contestants for this night were Kelly Cheval, Amber Fenway, Alexis Kennedy and Chynna Divine. There were more "up" dos and tap dancing than your average queen could stand, but good performances nonetheless. I do tend to tear up when I see an unbelievable up do. Most of the pageant regulars, including Jennifer and Keri, have retired from performing-not a good thing in the least! You two are sorely missed. So, it turned out to be a six-Zima night-get the pic?

The winner in the Interview and Talent category was Kelly Cheval. The winner in the Evening Gown and Presentation category was Chynna Divine.

Kelly Cheval won the pageant, with Chynna Divine first runner-up, and Alexis Kennedy second runner-up.

girls with a dream-hanging out on her recent visit to Cleveland. It was the least I could do. Ah, yes, me and the supermodels... it's my life!

Then today, I'm watching Ricki Lake, and the topic is: "Get a grip doll-you're too fat to be a drag queen!" Who appears at the end of the show (looking fab-u-lous, I must add)? Why none other than Maxie Houston, a U4ia regular and Miss Gay USA at Large. You be proud, girl!

Now for the local hapninz. Since U4ia nightclub has been returned to its original state and the drive-through has been eliminated, pageants can get back on track. On Jan. 24, the Miss Gay Cleveland U.S. of A. pageant was held, produced by Premier Productions. Emcee duties were held by Nicole Andrews with guest performances by Jessica Michaels, Coco Starr, Ivana Grump, Tasha James and Indigo Diamond. The judges were Kimberly Adrian, Katie from K & R Productions, Skipp McCall, and "Mr. Husky Hunk," Roger.

Kelly Cheval

Do notice from the picture of Kelly taken that night: It seems that there was no cash for flowers or a sash-what's up with that? If you have to scratch and claw your way to the top, you at least deserve flora and fabric! Am I wrong? Never!

Until next time...
